This manual concentrated advice compiled by an artist of Moscow Art Theatre, Ivan Gremislavsky (1886-1954). Through this theatre, he provided the most progressive methods of the stage design paralleled the experiments of performers. In particular, in 1942 Gremislavsky founded the first Soviet stage experimental laboratory that was based at the Moscow Art Theater as well.
Started from organizing the art workshop itself, the author shared his experience in how to prepare the canvas, make and use paints as well as repair decorations. The edition was printed as the second issue of series ‘Guides and Manuals on the Theatre Technique’, being used as the textbook in art and theatre institutes.
