1932. 18x12 cm. Near fine. Sighed on the rear side by Rodchenko’s grandson Alexander Lavrent’ev.
Interesting evidence of physical practices in Moscow universities, as well as contemporary styles of Soviet underwear. This roof of the student campus was adapted to sport exercises and a pool was also placed. Rodchenko shot a series of pictures of young men and women sunbathing at the height of several floors.
A full-length portrait of two students was taken from below - with the narrow background of other roofs of Moscow.
Through photography, Rodchenko had been a herald of the Soviet sports competitions and physical culture for many years. In the early 1930s, Rodchenko created his debut series of sports photographs. From 1935 to 1938 he served as a member of the editorial board of the magazine ‘Soviet Photo’ and began to specialize in photographing sports events.
