Moscow, [1930s]. 19,5x14,5 cm. Near fine.
Rodchenko and Varvara Stepanova lived and created together since the 1910s. In 1920, VKHUTEMAS was established and they were invited to teach there. The following year the spouses got an apartment in the VKHUTEMAS building (Myasnitskaya Street, 21). Rodchenko took famous foreshortened pictures of Stepanova on this exact balcony with a view of the VKHUTEMAS courtyard as a background. This photo was shot in his own manner and every line was tilted. Despite Stepanova had turned away, she is still recognizable.
