This is the first and only separate edition of the poem At the Zoo by Velimir Khlebnikov (1885-1922). At that time a lot of people were working on publishing his works like Aleksei Kruchyonykh who was gathering unpublished materials. Another reason for printing this book was to make a connection with the first publication of the poem in 1910 in Sadok Sudei almanac which was handwritten and lithographed (so was this edition). This edition also includes memories and comments by Kruchyonykh and little known introduction by Yurii Olesha. Not only Olesha but a few other Russian critics and writers in 1920s praised At the Zoo as an ideal example of a new poetry, new «academy», manifesto for young writers. Zverinets is an excellent example of Russian futurism and a first attempt to create a new poetic structure different from usual romantic and post-romantic poetry. MoMA. 926.
