Written by Vladimir Bromley in 1932, this book represents a drawing manual for artisans and members of cooperative associations of the USSR. The purpose of the publication was to help its readers understand all types of drawings and to teach them how to create at least a simple drawing on their own. The book consists of four sections: The concept of drawing, Instruments and materials, Basic drawing techniques, and Drawing rules. The first section of the book introduces readers to the fundamentals of geometry and is mainly directed at amateur and inexperienced drawers. In the following sections, the author elaborates upon different materials and instruments employed in drawing, their characteristics, and rules of their usage as well as the peculiarities of drawings (classification, size, scale, carving, hatching, designation system, etc). The edition also includes two supplementary notes: the first is dedicated to the topic of designations used in the past, while the second concentrates on the rules of drawing for applications and rules for filing applications. The book includes numerous black and white schemes illustrating different aspects of the process of drawing.
