The book would be issued in five English-language editions during Hillquit's lifetime and would be translated into a number of the primary languages of the American socialist movement, including German, Russian, Yiddish, Finnish, and Polish. Two main documents are published in this book - program of the Socialist Party and Socialist Worker's Party. There was an increasing interest in Socialist movement in USA when this book was first published.
