An impressive example of Soviet industrial and regional propaganda publishing of the Second Five-Year Plan period, devoted to the transformation of the Moscow Region through industrialization, collectivization, transportation projects, housing construction, and the rapid expansion of socialist infrastructure. Issued by OGIZ–IZOGIZ in the format popularized by the celebrated SSSR na Stroike [USSR in Construction] series, the publication employs dynamic photomontage, large-format photography, and innovative graphic design to present the Moscow Region as a model of socialist modernization.

The volume was prepared under the direction of responsible editors B. F. Malkin, I. A. Sviridov, and P. V. Krasnov, with editorial organization by R. Ya. By God and design by N. S. Troshin. The publication brings together photographs by many of the leading Soviet photojournalists of the period, including Maks Alpert, Georgii Zelmanovich, Boris Kudoyarov, Georgii Petrusov, Arkady Shaikhet, A. V. Skurikhin, S. I. Svidel, D. G. Debabov, L. A. Velikzhanin, and others, as well as photographs supplied by Mossoyuzfoto and Soyuzfoto. Their images document factories, collective farms, construction projects, transportation networks, workers, engineers, and the changing urban and rural landscape surrounding Moscow.
