Ivanovo-Voznesensk: Osnova, 1928. Item #453

79 pp.: ill. 23,5x15,5 cm. In original illustrated wrappers. Owner’s label and signature on the front cover and t.p., some rubbing, spine chipped. Otherwise a very good clean and sound copy.

First and only edition. One of 1500 copies. Extremely rare, a provincial edition. With 13 illustrations in the text and bibliography list mainly of German titles.

This brochure was supposed to be printed as a part of the book ‘Drawing, Composition and Patronage of Weaving’ but it was edited, enlarged and printed separately while the mentioned textbook was never printed. The edition is dedicated to principles of color, light and human’s eye . Quantum theory, Einstein and photons are also mentioned as well as an interesting theory on analogy between color matching and sound harmony. Another interesting detail is mentioned system of three colors or color wheel of K. Meyer. It is hard to tell which wheel the author was referring to but there are several color systems invented throughout the history first one to be by Isaak Newton. All systems have same basis of three main colors.

Polytechnical Institution in Voznesensk was a higher education institution from 1918 to 1930, after then it was reformed. Originally it was a Riga Polytechnic Institute which was evacuated during the war to Moscow. In 1918 it was decided to leave it close to Moscow (operation was supported by M.V. Frunze). It was the first technical higher education institution established in the USSR. In 10 years there was 95 teachers and 1500 students.
