Kiev: 2ya Radyanska foto-lito-grukarnia, 1920. 75x55 cm. Rebacked and restored.
The poster was made around the time the Red Army was approaching to take the full control over the Ukraine. The text says: ’The red calvary has defeated Mamontov, Shkuro, Denikin, lords and Petlyura. Now it’s time to crash Vrangel. Workers and peasants, join the Red Calvary’.
This poster is famous not only because of the design but because it was printed on the banknotes of the Bank of Ukraine. These are the notes that were used by Petlyura government in 1918-1919. By February 1919 Kiev was captured by Red Army and the rolls of unused banknotes were used for making posters.
