“Each of the outdoor games described in this collection is aimed at one or another practical military goal. Almost all games are based on fighting against an opponent or competition” - the compiler wrote in the introduction. “Games discipline… and, finally, give the rest to a peasant soldier who is unaccustomed to mental stress”. All leisure time activities were held in “red tents” that served as clubs in Red Army stations.
The book overviews 51 outdoor games, including ball and blindfold plays, horseback games, various races - walk on stilts, sack race, three-legged race, etc. as well as gorodki and lapta, familiar to every provincial soldier. These general activities were sometimes held as competitions with spectators invited.

The only copy is located in Chicago University.
