[PROPAGANDA OF THE STALINIST MOSCOW] U nas v Moskve [i.e. At home, in Moscow]

Moscow: Detgiz, 1947. Item #1464

36 pp.: ill. 28x20 cm. In original illustrated wrappers. In very good condition, slightly rubbed, stains occasionally, small tear of the back cover, some illustrations were hand-colored by two pencils.

First edition. Very rare.
Cover design includes a photograph with light lettering in the dark sky. Following Telingater’s experiments, it was made using two negatives, one of them printed as a positive, so that the black becomes white. Photographs were gathered by photographer G. Grachev. A portrait of I. Stalin was reproduced from a fragment of a painting by Armenian artist Dmitrii Nalbandian. The title page contains a group portrait of Soviet children.
An impressive young children’s photobook about life in Moscow under Stalin. Photographs supplemented a talk of Red Army soldiers boasting about various wonderful things they had in contemporary Moscow.
Pictures feature streets, Stalinist architecture, ZiL automobiles, planetarium and Zeiss projector, designs of metro stations inside and outside, the steam locomotive named after Stalin, railway stations, the North River Terminal and airplane on the Khodynka field, a street fountain and the Moscow river “with Volga water”, the VDNKH and Mukhina’s sculpture ‘Worker and Kolkhoz Woman’, the Dynamo stadium with football match and marches.

The only copy is located in Princeton University.

Price: $550.00
