Riga: Knigoizdatel’stvo O.D. Strok, 1924. Item #1488
170 pp., 4 pp. of advertisements. 20х14,5 cm. In period cardboards, the original front cover preserved. Rubbed, tear of the first two leaves along the spine, spots, otherwise very good internally.
Lifetime Russian edition being a part of the Riga pulp-fiction phenomenon. A few editions of ‘Prostitute’ by Victor Margueritte (1866-1942) were printed earlier in Moscow. This one came out with fragile covers featuring a prostitute that referred to the exploitation content.
Publisher’s advertisements of scandalous Margueritte’s novels were printed alongside advertisements of Gypsy romances, common dance music and educational books.
