This first comprehensive atlas of the Armenian SSR was printed by the General Directorate of Geodesy and Cartography of the State Geological Committee in 1961. The edition is particularly interesting since the administrative division of the country changed only 2 years after the publication of the atlas (the 1963 decree of the Presidium of the Armenian SSR eliminated seven districts). The edition gathers more than 100 color maps, each attributed to a specific section: environmental conditions, population and cultural construction, economics, and history. Every section is preceded by an Introduction that provides information on the corresponding subject. The atlas features maps displaying the Caucasus, reservoirs of mineral resources in Armenia, average annual air temperature, wind direction and speed, agro climatic zones, turbidity, zoogeographical realms, power plants, urban growth, economic districts, etc. Importantly, the edition comprises historical maps of Armenia (from VIII-VII B.C.E. to 1921) showing how the territory of the country changed within the course of the time. Each map has a scale indicated. Conventional signs are either given at the beginning of the atlas, or on the corresponding maps. The edition was compiled based on the latest statistics provided by the Statistical Office of the Armenian SSR. The editorial board included: Doctor of Historical Sciences, Aramais Arutyunyan (1910-1995), Armenian cartographer, Andranik Bagdasaryan (1918-1991), Soviet agrochemist, Gagik Davtyan (1909-1980), Martirosyan G., Marukhyan A., Soviet geologist, Sergey Mkrtchyan (1911—1974), Stepanyan L., Urusov V., Shahbazyan M.

Overall, an important atlas that provides detailed information on the 1960s Armenian SSR.
