A short article about Azerbaijani sculptures written by the Azerbaijani Soviet archaeologist, ethnographer, and local historian Alesker Kazym oglu Alekperov (1895-1937). In the text, the author overviews peculiarities of Azerbaijani art through the analysis of grave monuments in Buzovny. The edition is supplemented with 3 tables showing grave monuments (Buzovny) and details of their architecture. Nine years after publishing this article, Alekperov became a victim of Stalinist repressions. He died in custody in 1938.
After graduating from the Eastern Department of the Azerbaijan State University in 1926, Alesker participated in the work of the Azerbaijan Archaeological Committee. From 1933, he was the head of the section on the history of material culture at the Institute of History of the Azerbaijan branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences. Alekperov was one of the first Soviet scientists to study the culture of jug burials in the archeology of Azerbaijan. He also compiled ethnographic maps of Azerbaijan, including the first ethnographic map on which more than 5 thousand settlements were indicated.
