Item #1725

Kharkiv: Vydannia Ukrzhytlospilky, 1930. 52x37,5 cm. Backed, corners and minor fragment of edge restored, otherwise near fine.

One of 2000 copies produced. In Ukrainian.
Subscription advertising poster for the newspaper ‘Za novyi pobut”, the organ of All-Ukrainian Association of Housing Cooperation. The periodical came out in 1930-1935.
Its design is uncomplicated yet eye-catching. A contrasting image of a man is just placed in front of a two-color non-decorated background. Although a “bill” carried by the man has been rotated, it is clearly readable. Thus passers-by focused on subscription information given in this fragment.
The monogram likely belonged to Efim Reznikov (1894-1978). In the 1920-1930s, the artist primarily worked for satirical magazines that were based in Moscow. He gained fame for later posters produced in the 1940-1960s. At that time, Reznikov made anti-religious, anti-military and anti-imperialist posters imprinted at the workshop “Agitplakat” [Propaganda Poster].
