First edition. One of 3000 copies. The rare version of this photo-edition, the common version is in white and blue folder. We were unable to find any reference showcasing this version of the album.
Design was produced by starring duo of Alexander Rodchenko and Varvara Stepanova. Photographs were provided by Arctic explorers I. Papanin, E. Krenkel, P. Shirshov, E. Fyodorova & others.
It is one of the rarest Rodchenko/Stepanova albums, due to the small run of copies, and a lessknown version with photos mounted to both sides of leaves.
It is the first ever constructivist album on Arctic. This edition is dedicated to the famous expedition North Pole-1 on the first Soviet manned drifting station in the Arctic ocean. For 234 days,
Papanin’s team carried out a wide range of scientific observations in the near-polar zone, until taken back by the two icebreakers. It was the first expedition of its kind in the world.
The only copy of the edition is located in Dartmouth University.
