Synopsis of the paper for Candidate of Geographical Sciences.
This paper is related to the historical Karachay land in North Caucasus and plans for its reconstruction after Nazi’s occupation.
In the early Soviet Union, the Karachay Autonomous Region was founded around the new city Mikoyan-Shakhar – i.e. “the city of Anastas Mikoyan”. The region was liquidated on October 12, 1943. The Karachais were declared “allies of the German occupiers” and were deported to Central Asia and Kazakhstan. The southern part of Karachay was transferred to the Georgian SSR for 1943–1955, including the Klukhor region. The city was renamed Klukhori.
In the late 1950s, the territory was separated back from Georgia and residents of the Karachay-Cherkess Autonomous Region were rehabilitated.
