A historically important and wonderfully-preserved calendar produced by the Georgian State Publishing House (Sakhelgami) in an effort to boost morale of Georgian soldiers and reinforce WWII propaganda. The calendar came out in Tbilisi in 1942 and was likely sold in local shops and distributed to government offices, military units, and the frontline.
Dominated by red hues, the calendar prominently features the motto "Death to German Occupants" (in Georgian) in the upper left corner. It also showcases a striking lithograph of Soviet soldiers engaged in battle, set against a backdrop of red flags. Red stars, symbolizing the Red Army, separate the months, reinforcing its powerful propaganda message.
The calendar was issued following the Soviet directive to establish national divisions in response to the heavy early war losses. In the winter of 1942, Georgian units began forming, with many playing a crucial role in the Battle for the Caucasus. Overall, approximately 700,000 Georgians served in WWII, with nearly 400,000 perishing, according to the State Service of Veterans Affairs of Georgia.
Overall, historically important wartime Georgian ephemera.
