The manual is printed for the teachers of the technical and geodesical colleges for the course of the history of maps and plans in Russia. The work consists of 3 sections: first gives the overview of maps from Old Rus up to beginning of XIXth century, the second section is dedicated to ‘The capitalist period up to 1917’ and the third gives the overview of the Soviet school of mapping.
The work is supplied with 60 images in text, black and white, that was supposed to give students a good picture of the development of maps and plans.
The work is interesting because it looks at old plans and maps from the technical point of view, analysing the use of scale and the development of the old Russian measure systems to adapting the European metrics to regulating it in Soviet times. The work ends with the lists of standards in use for contemporary cartography at the time.
