First Ukrainian book on this topic. One 3000 copies. Edited by Ukrainian psychiatrist Valentin Gakkebush (1881–1931).
An early book by the professor Ivan Strelchuk (1901-1991) who was the first among Soviet scholars to describe alcoholic paranoid and chronic alcoholic hallucinosis, types of alcoholic degradation. He founded the Kyiv Psychotherapeutic Office. He proposed his own classification of alcohol use disorder (1940) and developed a number of original methods for treating the disease. Much later he became the head of the department for the study of new methods of treatment and diagnosis of alcoholic diseases at the All-Russian Research Institute of General and Forensic Psychiatry.
In this work, Strelchuk writes about the nervous system, reflexes, hypnosis in general and hypnosis as a method of treatment. He lists diseases that respond best to treatment by suggestion, including insomnia, indigestion, masturbation, menstrual irregularities, stuttering, alcoholism and drug addiction. In following decades, Strelchuk focused on treating various substance abuse.
