The textbook is written by an architect Lev Akselevich Serk (1882-1954). According to Khan-Magomedov, in the pre-revolutionary period, Leo Akselevich Serk was one of the major specialists in the architecture of industrial buildings. In St. Petersburg, he ran the engineering and architectural bureau L. A. Serk and Co., which carried out projects, gave consultations, conducted engineering calculations and technical supervision of buildings. The bureau had its own woodworking plant and a carpentry and construction factory. Before the Revolution, this bureau had built over 100 industrial buildings in St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod and the Moscow region. Among his projects are Russian buildings of JSC Siemens and Schuckert, Siemens and Halske, as well as the Triangle factory. Serk also taught in the Institute of Civil Engineers – in the Soviet period, at the Moscow Engineering and Construction Institute and the Moscow Architectural Institute. In 1939, he became one of the developers of the code of building norms in the USSR.
