Both anti-Nazi leaflets were printed by Red Army representatives and were most likely dropped from a plane. The text of the second leaflet was published in the magazine ‘Krasnaia zvezda’ [Red Star] on October 3, 1942 and distributed among other periodicals. Nikolai Tikhonov (1896-1979) was a Russian poet, a follower of Nikolai Gumilev and a writer from the group ‘Serapion Brothers’. From the late 1920s, he traveled a lot around the country, particularly to the Caucasus. He studied the life and history of Caucasian ethnic groups. He also was engaged in translations of Georgian, Armenian, and Dagestani poets. During World War II, he worked in the Political Directorate of the Leningrad Front. He wrote essays and stories, articles and leaflets, poems and appeals. Then and later he published numerous propaganda writings.
