An interesting overview of the ethnographic expeditions organized by the State Museum of Russia from 1924 to 1925. Printed in 1926, this book contains 11 essays about the expeditions conducted by D. Zolotarev, B. Kryzhanovsky, A. Miller, F. Fiel’strup, G. Bonch-Osmalovsky, S. Rudenko, R. Mitusova, K. Vyatkina, A. Makarenko, S. Teploukhov, and A. Barannikov. The expeditions were organized in an effort to enrich the collections of the Museum, which were significantly damaged during the 1924 flood in Leningrad. The edition covers Podolsk, Altai, and Crimean expeditions, research works in the North Caucasus and Minusk region, studies among the Kara-Kyrgyz and Finns, trips to Mongolia and the Ob-Taz watershed, etc. The essays provide information on the expedition's members and offer a detailed analysis of the items obtained during the scientific research. Aside from the formal description of the expeditions, the texts also feature ethnographic characteristics of visited areas and brief overviews of the lifestyle of local people. The edition includes numerous black-and-white illustrations showing different scenes (including local gowns and objects obtained) from the expeditions.
