Kiev: Vseukrainskoe izd-vo, 1920. 73x58 cm. In Ukrainian. Artist unknown. In Good condition. Pale stains on the top and bottom of the poster, as well as marginal tears.
Two-color lithographic poster was issued by Bolsheviks during the Russian Civil War and leveled at military leader Symon Petliura who collaborated with Polish interventionist forces.
In early 1919, the Directorate of the Ukrainian People’s Republic headed by Petliura declared war against Bolsheviks and their government on the territory of Ukraine. In April 1920, Symon Petlyura signed an agreement with Poland to fight against the Red Army. According to it, the UPR agreed to move a border between Poland and Ukraine and recognize the entry of Galicia and Volhynia into Poland.
Bolsheviks actively exploited intervention for propaganda purposes and this poster is an excellent example of such a print. The UPR ceased to exist in November 1920.
