The book itself is largely dedicated to USA military forces and includes a lot of classified information on the matter. The chapters include data on the quantity and the recruitment of the ground forces, including with officers and horses; the structure of military administration, including information on local administrations; the structure of volunteer and regular troops, the militia, tactical schools, weapons, military schools, and the salaries of officers of various ranks. A separate chapter is devoted to the navy.
Particular attention is paid to the size of the army; for example, in the article on the militia, data is given for all states, including the number of companies of infantry and mounted militia, artillery and engineers.
The work sums up Russian knowledge of the subject at that time. The rest of the countries of North and South America are also present, but to each 1-3 pages are dedicated.
