Second edition. First edition came out in 1908. The book was considered one of the first Russian summaries of the extinct species including the dinosaurs. As the publisher stated in the preface, they wanted to print something for the upcoming Soviet generation on the topic, but didn’t find a better work, instead asked paleontologist Alexander Chernov (1877—1963) to correct the book and make
additions. Chernov at the time was a professor of Arctic Institute and Moscow University at the time.
