The first Russian translation of the German book, titled Farbkunde, that came out in Leipzig in 1926. This was one of the early Russian books on color theory. The two color plates at the end was printed in VKHUTEMAS workshop, as this edition was printed mainly to be used in the institute. It was prepared, edited and commented on by Sergey Kravkov (1893 - 1951), Soviet psychologist and optician, he is considered one of the founders of physiological optics – a scientific discipline that represents a synthesis of knowledge about the physiological, physical, and psychological patterns characterizing the function of the organ of vision. He studied the patterns of functioning of the sense organs and developed the problem of functional interaction of various afferent
systems.
In the 1920s, in addition to VKhUTEMAS, he taught at the Psychological Institute, the Military Pedagogical Academy, and the Moscow Institute of National Economy named after G. V. Plekhanov, giving a course of lectures on “psychophysiology of vision».
