First and only edition. Printed in Pskov in the print-shop ’Trud i Znanie’, despite the St-Petersburg imprint is mentioned on the title page.
Natalia Petrovskaia, the author of this cook-book, is known because of a several titles she has published in 1910s, all focusing on making different kind of desserts. Together with this book she has published 7 different guides on how to make marmalade, pastila, figs, candied fruits, dried jam, gingerbread. Only five of them are held at Russian National Library, excluding this title. The Worldcat also shows no record of it. The rarity is probably determined by the fragile and ephemeral nature of the book.
The book itself is a gem of information, how to preserve fruits for the winter - in the form of jams and canned fruit with sugar, also what is called in Russian ‘varenie’. The recipes are given for 30 of different products, including apples, apple of Paradise, pears, quince, pears, apricots, plums, cherries, strawberry, raspberries, wild strawberry, gooseberry, currant, blueberry, lingonberry, melon, cinnamon, pistachio, sheptala, almond, chocolate, lemon, saffron, nuts, rose, bitter orange, bitter orange flowers, bitter orange juice, blackthorn and jasmine.
