Russian artist Nikolai Medovshchikov (1898-1988) was born in 1898 in the village of Nizhny Novgorod Province and graduated from the Nizhny Novgorod Noble Institute in 1917. Alongside the institute, he attended the private art studios of L. Diamant and V. Likin. After the Revolution he taught drawing in Nizhny Novgorod schools, worked at the Provincial Museum, and studied at E. Lvov’s art studio. In 1922, he moved to Moscow and enrolled in the Moscow Free Academy, while also working as an artist at “Reklamplakat” [Advertising Poster Agency]. From 1924, he worked as a theater artist. In 1925–1927, he worked at the M. Gorky Crimean State Theater in Simferopol. The result of his creative expeditions across Crimea was this finely published art edition. Later, he was one of the leading provincial theatrical artists working in Kazan, Tashkent, Smolensk, Samara, Saratov, Gorky, Yaroslavl, and other cities. In particular, he served at the Yaroslavl Academic Drama Theater in 1945–1954 and the Volgograd Drama Theater in 1957–1967.

The edition includes 15 lithographs featuring Medovshchikov’s drawings. Of them, 14 are printed on separate leaves and a small one illustrates the title page. In a strict monochrome manner, lithographs feature monuments of Crimean Tatar architecture: houses, mosques, mausoleums and the Khan's Palace with a Fountain of Tears. The list of depicted monuments is published on a separate leaf.
