This early Soviet Ukrainian book describes the North Caucasus – a land abundant in natural wealth and a region with a significant Ukrainian minority. The text is illustrated with many photographs.

The book begins with an overview, providing information on the climate and the region's geographical and geological features, etc. Then it offers a traditional outline of the region's status within the Russian Empire, before turning in its final section to its situation in the Soviet Union and the economic achievements of the 1920s.

It includes results from the 1926 census, with breakdowns by nationality. Ukrainians were the second largest ethnic group in the North Caucasus, after Russians. Statistics on education and literacy levels are also provided, along with data on the Soviet policy of resettling highlanders to lowland areas for agricultural development.

The Soviet section describes the achievements of the region’s agriculture, industry, electrification, transport network, and health resorts. The chapter on agriculture and livestock farming features photographs of peasants on tractors taken at various collective farms, panoramic views of factories, and publishes statistical data from the First Five-Year Plan and the period preceding it. Also, images show routes used to transport products from various industries across the North Caucasus, the Volga–Don Canal and a scheme of its junction with the Volga River.
