Printed to promote the celebrated 1923 Paris season of the Moscow Kamerny Theatre at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, held from 6 to 23 March under the artistic direction of Alexander Tairov. The poster announces performances of Phèdre, Adrienne Lecouvreur, Salomé, Princesse Brambille, and Ciroflé-Cirofla, introducing French audiences to one of the Soviet Union's most innovative theatrical companies during its first major Western European tour. The Kamerny Theatre, founded by Tairov in 1914, rejected psychological realism in favor of stylized movement, expressive staging, and avant-garde scenography, quickly becoming one of the leading experimental theaters of the twentieth century. The Paris performances were an international success and played an important role in establishing the reputation of Soviet avant-garde theatre abroad.

Designed by the constructivists Georgii Stenberg, Vladimir Stenberg, and Konstantin Medunetsky, the poster ranks among the iconic achievements of early Soviet graphic design. Employing bold geometric forms, dynamic asymmetrical typography, and a restrained palette of yellow, turquoise, black, red, and cream, it exemplifies the constructivist principle of unifying text and image into a single visual composition. The stylized theatrical figure surmounting the circular inscription Le Kamerny de Moscou transforms the advertisement into a striking work of avant-garde art.
