A mid-1960s Soviet beauty and hairdressing album published in Kyiv and compiled by leading Ukrainian master hairdressers, with models selected from regional hairdressing competitions, professional masterclasses, and showcase exhibitions. The volume was intended both for beauty-salon and barbershop professionals and for the general public, combining contemporary hairstyling techniques with practical advice on personal appearance, cosmetics, and skincare. The introductory synopsis encourages readers to approach their appearance critically, identifying the oval face as the classical ideal of beauty and noting that, in hair color, “naturalness is fashionable this season.”

The album contains over 155 black-and-white photographs presenting a broad survey of fashionable women’s, men’s, and children’s hairstyles of the period. The women’s section includes every day, youthful, evening, and bridal styles, together with recommendations for mature women and advice on choosing hairstyles according to facial proportions. Among the characteristic mid-century fashions are voluminous bouffant “bell” styles, rounded cap cuts, short feathered cuts, tapered bobs, elaborate crest-like updos, and sculptural “shell” arrangements. Detailed technical instructions cover cold-wave setting, roller placement, backcombing, permanent-wave care, and other professional styling methods.

The sections devoted to men’s and children’s hairdressing provide detailed guidance on cutting and shaping straight, wavy, and thinning hair with scissors and clippers. Among featured styles are several variations of the classic Polish cut, Canadian crew cuts, flat-top and “hedgehog” styles, fashionable regional and youth cuts, as well as schoolboy and teenage hairstyles. Additional advice addresses sideburns, beard shaping according to facial structure, blow-dry styling, and the adaptation of haircuts to individual proportions.

The final section concerns cosmetics and skincare, with practical guidance on identifying different skin types, concealing freckles and pigmentation, caring for aging skin, maintaining the face and neck, applying cold creams, and performing facial massage exercises. The text also discusses protection of the skin from harmful industrial conditions, reflecting the publication’s broader combination of fashionable appearance, everyday hygiene, and professional beauty care.
