Grigory Evlampievich Blagosvetov (1824-1880) who translated this book into Russian was the editor in chief of such influential magazines of the time as ‘Delo’ and ‘Russkoe slovo’.
Mill’s ideas were popular in Russia and his works were widely known – most of them were translated into Russian in 1860s. ‘Principles of political economy’ was first translated into Russian by Chernyshevsky.
