In the gallery "On Shabolovka" Association "Exhibition Halls of Moscow" will open the exhibition "To the Left. Georgian Book Avant-garde" based on the study by Pavel Chepyzhov.
The project is dedicated to the book avant-garde of Tbilisi in the 1920s and 1930s; its goal is to highlight the regional phenomenon of early Soviet Georgian book design, and to show that, despite little knowledge, it was one of the most recognizable national avant-garde movements of that time.
Font design, ideas of Dadaism and constructivism, disputes about the ideological identity of Niko Pirosmani, remote participation of Rodchenko and Mayakovsky - all this manifests itself through the book culture of the republic and allows us to look at Tbilisi as one of the important centers of early Soviet art. artists and writers about who is "more left" and closer to the ideas of constructivism - LEF or Proletarian writers. The wording of the “left-handedness” sounded in the book by Leo Esaki criticizing the Georgian version of the LEF magazine.
The exhibition will feature more than a hundred books in Georgian, as well as posters and graphics. Most of the items in the collection will be on display for the first time.
